Hyderabad, September 28: A 19-year-old second-year Computer Science Engineering student at GITAM University allegedly died by suicide in Telangana's Sangareddy. The student was found dead in her hostel room on Friday, September 27. The incident came to the fore at around 2:30 pm when her classmates noticed her absence and alerted the hostel management.

According to a report published by the Deccan Chronicle, the deceased student was identified as Varsha from Anantapur district. She was found dead by her classmates, who informed hostel management. Upon discovery, Varsha was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was declared brought dead. According to Patancheru Inspector Praveen, Varsha’s friends had left for lunch, leaving her alone in the room. Upon their return, they found her hanging from the ceiling fan and promptly informed the authorities. Preliminary investigations suggest academic pressure might have been a contributing factor, though the exact reason remains unknown. In April this year, at least seven students allegedly died by suicide within a span of 30 hours following the release of the results for the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) Intermediate Public Examination 2024 for both first and second years. The incidents occurred in various locations across the state. The first case involved a 16-year-old student from Tandur in Mancherial district, who had failed in four subjects during the first year and was found hanging at his residence, according to police.
