According to the report, the accused, Adabala Surya Teja, 30, got married to K Akhila two years ago. The couple became parents for the second time but to a girl child one month ago. Unhappy with the second girl child, Surya Teja drowned the baby in a water tank near his house when his wife went out for some work. When locals came to know about the event they tied him and questioned him, before calling the cops. "According to prima facie information, the accused drowned his daughter as he didn’t wish to have a baby girl," a police official told TNM. An investigation into the matter is underway.
Last month, in a similar incident, a newborn baby was allegedly murdered by her grandfather, who was upset as he wanted a boy. The elderly man reportedly committed the crime by stuffing grains of paddy in the infant's mouth.
