Hyderabad, June 1: A 15-year-old student from Telangana's Hyderabad who committed suicide after finding out that she had failed to clear a paper in the Intermediate, Class 12 examinations had actually passed after re-evaluation of her answer sheet 40 days after she took her life. Anamika Arutla committed suicide on 18th April soon after the results were declared. Her mark sheet uploaded on the website showed that she got 20 out of 100 marks in Telugu. On Saturday, when her sister Udaya downloaded her results uploaded by board authorities after re-verification, she found that Anamika had actually scored 48 marks and she was declared passed. “We have been told earlier by the board that Anamika’s marks just increased by a mark or two and her result still remains in the failed category. But now, it shows that she passed in the exam. Who is responsible for her death now? Can they get my daughter back to us? This is a major mistake,” Udaya told News18.
There were allegations of major anomalies in checking the answer sheets and tabulation of marks by the state Intermediate board. More than 25 students had committed suicide after the results were declared. Following the controversy, the Telangana government ordered a re-evaluation of marks and answer sheets free of cost for 3 lakh students who had failed.
A three-member committee was also appointed to look after the issue that the Globearena Technologies Pvt Ltd, a private company committed a technical error while processing the results. The most shocking case was a student was given '00' instead of '99' marks.
