Hyderabad, June 2: Streets in Hyderabad were all decked up with festive lights to mark Telangana Formation Day on Sunday. The state of Telangana was officially formed on 2 June 2014 and to mark this special days, several events are held every year since 2014. To mark the occasion important government buildings including Telangana Assembly and Secretariat have been decorated with colourful lights and flower garlands. The State celebrates the occasion with formal events across the districts. On this day, a formal event of national flag hoisting by the Chief Minister of Telangana and ceremonial parade is held at Parade Grounds. The statehood day celebrations are held in all the 30 districts of the state. Telangana Formation Day: Hyderabad City Decked Up With Festive Lights to Mark Statehood Day. 

Wishes poured from across the nation on the statehood day of Telangana. Taking to Twitter, President Ram Nath Kovind extended his greeting to wish people of the southern state on its formation day. "Greetings and good wishes to the people of Telangana on statehood day. My best wishes to all the residents of the state for a bright and prosperous future", the President tweeted.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday took to Twitter and greeted people of Telangana on the formation day. "Heartiest greetings to all my brothers and sisters in Telangana on the occasion of Telangana Statehood Day", she tweeted.

Meanwhile, Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, E S L Narasimhan greeted people of the state on the occasion of fifth Telangana State Formation Day on Sunday. In his message, the Governor said, “ On the occasion of 5th Anniversary of the Formation Day of the State of Telangana, I convey my best wishes to the people of Telangana.

The Chief Minister's Office Telangana also extended wishes on micro-blogging site Twitter. "Telangana enters into the sixth year completing five years of unprecedented progress! Hon'ble CM Sri K Chandrashekar Rao expressed happiness that the State has become a role model for the rest of the country and extended greetings on the momentous occasion", the tweet said.

Telangana was officially formed as the 29th state of India on June 2, 2014. Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) was elected as the first chief minister of the state after elections in which the Telangana Rashtra Samithiparty (TRS) secured the majority seats.
