Hyderabad, October 19: The police and Election Commission team witnessed a high drama on Tuesday night, October 17,  at about 10:30 pm while they were on duty on the National Highway (NH) in Gadwal for the upcoming Telangana assembly elections 2023. The team recovered Rs 750 crore cash from a truck during checking on NH which left the cops shocked.

However, all the fuss about the cash seizure died down after it came to light that the Rs 750 crore cash belonged to Union Bank of India, which was being taken from Kerala to Hyderabad, reported TOI.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, during his recent visit to Hyderabad, had asked state election officials to curb smuggling from Goa and other places. He was also disappointed  with the 'low' cash seizure by the state police. Telangana: Police Seize Gold and Silver Worth Over Rs 10 Crore in Miyapur During Election Code Vehicle Check (See Pics and Video).

TOI quoted Telangana Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj as saying that after confirmation from Union Bank of India officials, the truck was released for onward journey. Vikas Raj said, "The truck carrying Rs 750 crore in cash remained in the headlines for a few hours, but eventually we learned that it was a straight-up chest-to-chest money transfer. Once verified, the police allowed the truck to continue its journey."

Meanwhile, unaccounted cash, gold and other valuables and freebies worth over Rs 165 crore were seized in poll-bound Telangana till Wednesday as part of enforcement of model code of conduct which came into force in the state on October 9.
