Tejas Express Train To Run At 120 Kmph Between Mumbai's CSMT And Goa's Karmali; Trials Underway
The Central Railway will carry out trials of Tejas Express with engines to increase its speed to 120 kmph from 110 kmph on Saturday. The air-conditioned Tejas express which is operating between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj terminus and Karmali has a potential to run at 160 kmph.
Mumbai, October 12: The Central Railway will carry out trials of Tejas Express with dual engines to increase its speed to 120 kmph from 110 kmph on Saturday, reported The Times of India. The air-conditioned Tejas express which is operating between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj terminus and Karmali has a potential to run at 160 kmph. Railway officials want to observe whether the train can be run slightly late, so that residents of Western suburbs can catch the train without any discomfort. The first Tejas express ran on 24 May 2017 from CSMT to Karmali, Goa. It covered 551.7 km in 8 hours and 30 minutes. It is the country's first high-speed semi-luxurious train. The train was vandalised by passengers on its first journey. Some of the passengers tried to remove the LCD screen by pulling on its hinges. Passengers also did not flush the toilets. In September last month, passengers vandalised the Mumbai-Manmad Panchavati Express, just four months after the train service was upgraded with Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches with better amenities. Passengers had damaged upholstery, torn curtains, smashed windows, and health faucets, taps, toughened glass of luggage racks, trashed bins and even stolen mirrors. According to a report published in Mumbai Mirror, the incidents of vandalism and thefts had cost the Central Railway Rs 9 lakh.
