New Delhi, September 30: Teacher's Day is a special occasion for teachers as well as the students. No teacher would refuse to accept the wishes and compliments they receive from the students on the day of Teacher's day which is celebrated in India on September 5 every year. However, several private schools in Delhi have refused to celebrate the Teacher's day this year. The private schools have cited the arrests of teachers and principal of a private school in the national capital as the reason for not celebrating the Teacher's day or having a "muted" Teacher's day celebration.

Besides the above mentioned reason, the teachers and the school associations have also claimed that they have been treated unfairly. The National Progressive Schools’ Conference (NPSC), an association of over 160 senior secondary private schools, has reportedly issued an advisory to schools saying that they should either abstain from celebrating the Teacher's Day or have muted celebrations on the occasion this year.

The Affordable Private Schools' Association said in its advisory that “We, the educationist fraternity, have to restore the value in our society and respect of the teachers, so that we can bring trust in the system.”

Earlier, the Springdales Education Society on August 21 had sent a notice and instructed the schools to not host the Teacher's Day dinner this year.

The Springdales Education Society said in its notice that teachers are being targeted on mere allegations. The notice in a stinging remark added that the relationship between the school and parents has merely become a financial matter and not what it used to be before.

What is the suicide case in which two teachers and a principal has been arrested?

The cause of discontent in the school association was the circumstances under which two teachers and the principal of a private school in Mayur Vihar , Delhi were arrested by the police. The teacher and the school principal were arrested after a Class IX student committed suicide on March 20. The parents of the child had accused teachers and the school of harassing their child and said that their girl took the extreme step due to the pressure of studies she faced due to her teachers.
