Teachers’ Day 2018: Rajasthan Govt Withdraws Order to Cut School Teachers Pay for Not Attending State-Organised Event
Following a major backlash from the educational experts and oppositions, the department had finally withdrawn both the orders.
On the one side, where students and the government authorities are all busy in preparations to honour the teachers across on September 5, Rajasthan State Education department went far ahead by threatening them. The educators are to lose a day’s payment if they do not attend a state government-0rganised Teachers’ Day event at Jaipur’s Amrudon-ka-Bagh. They were even asked to avoid wearing black and accessories in the event. The Rajasthan State Education is organising a state-level function near state Assembly in Jaipur to felicitate one teacher from all the 33 districts. All the school teachers who were appointed when Vasundhara Raje government has sworn in, are invited to the event. The teachers and educational experts were left in shock hearing the education department’s instruction which was issued on August 29. The order said that the teachers invited for the event would be relieved of their duties for four days after school on September 1. On the other hand, the reason to ban donning anything in black was to avoid any protests. The District nodal officers were told to host meetings in this regard on August 31. But, after receiving enough flak from teachers’ organisations that lead the government to revise its order on August 30, reported Hindustan Times. All India Congress Committee has accused the Raje government stating that the government was discriminating against teachers by calling only those appointed post-2013 and that it was spending about Rs. 11.51 crore on the function for political benefits.
