Tamil Nadu Shocker: Minor Girl Gangraped by Six Men on Her 17th Birthday in Coimbatore, Act Videographed

Chennai, December 1: A minor girl in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore town was gangraped by six members on her 17th birthday. The accused are said to be members of the same "gang" and were involved in petty crimes. The incident was reported on Friday, when the victim had come to a park in Ishwarya Nagar along with her boyfriend to celebrate her birthday. Kerala Nun Rape Case: Ex-Bishop Franco Mulakkal's Bail Extended, Case Adjourned Till January 6.

The victim, a student of Class 11, had reached the park with her boyfriend at around 8 pm. They were about to leave at 9 pm when the miscreants apprehended and dragged them to an isolated spot. The girl was held by two among them, whereas, others assaulted her boyfriend, stripped and videographed him.

The girl was subsequently raped by the gang members and the act was filmed by them. The victim was terrified and went to her boyfriend's house instead of her home that day. On Saturday, she informed her mother about the ordeal. The girl along with her mother subsequently approached the all-women police station in R Puram and registered their complaint.

Based on the FIR, the police launched a crackdown and nabbed four among the six alleged rapists. They have been identified as T Rahul, 21, R Prakash, 22, S Karthikeyan, 28 and S Narayanamurthy, 30. The sexual violence act was allegedly videographed by one among them.

The incident comes days after a veterinary doctor in Hyderabad was raped and burnt alive by four men after her two-wheeler tyre went flat near a toll plaza at the Outer Ring road. The incident has sparked protests across Telangana, with civil society groups demanding the K Chandrasekhar Rao-government to strengthen the security apparatus.
