Tamil Nadu Shocker: Lovelorn Man Consumes Poison, Attacks Woman With Knife For Turning Down His Marriage Proposal in Chengalpet

Chennai, September 15: After a woman and her parents declined his marriage proposal on Friday in Chengalpet, a depressed man who was in love with the woman consumed poison at her home. Karthik, 30, even attempted to stab the woman as the horrified family watched him use the poison he had brought with him. In the ensuing brawl, the woman's aunt stabbed herself in the neck in an effort to stop the attacker. Karthik passed away shortly after at the government hospital in Chengalpet.

According to the police, Karthik and Yogapriya worked at a chit fund firm in Cheyyur. Yogapriya had caught Karthik's attention, and he had told her so. She did not like him back, though, according to the police. After discovering that Yogapriya's family was making plans for her marriage, he went to her house on Thursday to see her parents and ask for their permission to marry their daughter. Karthik, who had taken poison with him, may have anticipated this response and consumed it then and then. Then, brandishing a knife, he went towards Yogapriya. Yogapriya's aunt, Jothi, pushed herself in front while trying to stop the attempted stabbing. Upon receiving information, police responded and shifted Karthik and Jothi to the government hospital in Chengalpet, where Karthik was pronounced dead and Jothi is receiving treatment. Further investigation is underway.
