Vellore, November 23: In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old woman allegedly killed her 18-month-old daughter by suffocating her because she was continuously crying in Tamil Nadu's Vellore district. The crime took place on Friday, November 22. The woman, identified as G Pavitra (25), a resident of Walajapet, has been arrested, the Hindustan Times reported. According to the report, the accused used to work at a private clothing store. When she reached her rented house, her daughter was crying for a long time. Angry over this, Pavitra pressed toddler with her shawl. "The child fainted due to suffocation," a police officer was quoted saying by Hindustan Times.

After the baby fell unconscious, Pavithra got panicked and hurried her to the hospital. "When a doctor asked the reason for the child’s condition, Pavitra lied that she had fainted. The doctor confirmed the death. As the doctor found something suspicious with the woman’s behaviour, he informed us,” the police officer said.

Pavitra got married to Gowri Shankar (30) in 2011. Her husband had left her recently distrusting her of having an extramarital affair. During the police investigation, Pavithra confessed to killing toddler "unintentionally" to stop her from crying. The accused has been booked under charges of murder.
