Alamarathur, October 21: A 37-year-old man was brutally murdered in Alamarathur, Tamil Nadu, over a property dispute involving his own family. V Sivakumar, the victim, owned five acres of agricultural land and was allegedly targeted by his elder sister Thilagavathi and her husband Moorthi, who sought to take control of the property. The couple, along with Sivakumar's mother, Ponnuthai, and two farmhands, plotted to kill him. After luring Sivakumar into drinking alcohol, the farmhands assaulted him and pushed him into a well on his farmland.

The police arrested V Ponnuthai, aged 60; her daughter, 39-year-old M Thilagavathi; son-in-law N Moorthi, aged 42; and farmhands R Jeevanantham (22), and R Mayandi, alias Vikram (24), following a thorough investigation. The incident came to light on Saturday, October 19, when Sivakumar's family members reported him missing, claiming he had fallen into the well while intoxicated. According to the investigation, on the night of the murder, Thilagavathi visited her mother’s house on a parcel of farmland. During the visit, Jeevanantham and Mayandi consumed alcohol with Sivakumar. After he became intoxicated, the two men allegedly assaulted him and forcibly pushed him into the well, leading to his death. A postmortem examination revealed deep head injuries on Sivakumar, indicating that his death was not accidental. Following this, police launched a probe that led to the swift arrest of the five suspects. The Times of India reported that they all confessed to the crime during interrogation. The police produced the accused before a judicial magistrate, who remanded them in custody.
