Chennai, February 2: In another shocking incident reported from Tirupur district of Tamil Nadu, a minor girl was allegedly assaulted sexually by her 66-year-old stepgrandfather. On Tuesday, the elderly man was arrested, eleven months after the alleged crime took place.

A complaint was filed by the victim’s father in the Udumalpet police station following which a case was registered by the police under section 7 and section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. According to a report in Times of India, The complainant worked at a diamond polishing plant in Gujarat, according to police. The minor girl is his first wife's daughter. The accused is the complainant's second wife's father. 

On March 3, 2021, the girl was alone at home when she was allegedly sexually assaulted. The old man allegedly made her sit down on his lap and caressed her private parts forcibly. He also cautioned the girl not to tell anybody about the alleged assault. In November 2021, she told her father about the alleged crime. Her father believed that keeping the child in his hometown was unsafe. He brought the child with him when he travelled for Gujarat and left her with his family members in Mumbai. He and his daughter went to the Udumalpet all-woman police station on Tuesday and lodged a complaint.
