Chennai, October 4: A man in Kancheepuram killed a five-year-old boy after he tried to resist the sexual assault. The boy was taken to the hospital for treatment after the attack, but he succumbed to injuries on September 30. A case was registered against him after the victim's sister revealed the details. The accused was arrested by the police.
According to a report by the Times of India, the accused had been separated from his wife for several years. He regularly visited a pushcart eatery managed by the child's mother and grandmother in the area. During this time, he built a relationship with the child's mother, a divorcee with two children, aged nine and five. He would often visit her house while the children were at school and occasionally bring the kids to his own home to play. The accused invited the siblings to his home. While the girl was occupied, he led the boy into a separate room and tried to sexually assault him. The boy fought back and began crying, which angered the accused. In his fury, he assaulted the boy and knocked him to the ground. Hearing the cries, the girl hurried to check on her brother and found him lying on the floor. Realizing the situation, the accused panicked, hurriedly dropped the children off at their house, and fled. Following the incident, The girl told her mother what had happened, but her mother initially dismissed the claim. The next day, the boy woke up and began vomiting. He was rushed to a government hospital, where he died just a few hours later. Doctors discovered external injuries on his body and alerted the police.
A case was immediately registered, and the body was sent to the Kancheepuram government hospital for postmortem. During questioning, the boy's sister revealed that she had seen the accused attacking her brother. The accused was formally charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, specifically under sections relating to aggravated sexual assault. In addition to these charges, he was also booked for murder following the tragic death of the boy.
