Holiday has also been declared for schools in Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Cuddalore and Chennai.

The India Meteorological Department's Chennai regional centre has predicted more spell of rains in the next 24 hours. "Thiruvallur, Vellore, Thiruvannamalai, Thoothukkudi, Ramanathapuram and Tirunelveli districts in Tamil Nadu would receive extremely heavy rainfall (above 20cm) in the next 24 hours," IMD said. Till now, five people have lost their lives in the rain-related incidents since Saturday. In Cuddalore, over 1,000 people living in low-lying areas have been evacuated. In Chennai, several major roads were waterlogged.
Director of area cyclone-warning Centre, N Puviyarasan said, "In the last 24 hours ending 8.30 am on Sunday, Sathankulam in Tuticorin district recorded a maximum of 19 cm of rainfall followed by Cuddalore 17cm, Tirunelveli 15cm, Kancheepuram 13cm." He added that more rainfall is expected in the next 48 hours.
