Chennai, February 12: As many as 19 people died after a massive fire broke out at a firecracker factory in Tamil Nadu on Friday. The fire was reported form Virudhunagar region in the southern state. The factory is located in Achangulam area near Sathur. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Fire tenders have been rushed to the spot for rescue operations.
As soon as the blaze was reported, police and fire bridage team rushed to the spot. According to reports, while sixteen people have lost their lives in the fire tragedy, around 36 people have been injured. In the wake of the fire incident, an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 Lakh each has been approved from PMNRF for the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to a fire in Virudhunagar, Moreover, Rs. 50,000 would be given to those seriously injured.
Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi K Palaniswami has also announced an ex-gratia compensation of Rs 3 Lakh each to kin of deceased and Rs 1 Lakh for critically injured. "I've instructed district authorities and medical experts to give best treatment to injured, asked local administration to ensure that families of deceased & injured are informed & necessary arrangements made. Also asked dist authorities to inspect such industries on regular basis," said Palaniswami.
