Mumbai, September 7: The Mumbai police on Tuesday booked a man for allegedly pronouncing triple talaq to his 27-year-old wife on the phone. Notably, the man pronounced triple talaq to his wife after seven months of their marriage. Acting on the woman's complaint, the police booked her husband, Mehtab Azamgir, her brother-in-law, Mohammed Rafi Ansari, and sister-in-law, Aliya Mohmmad Rafi Ansari, for allegedly harassing her.

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, all are residents of the Saki Vihar area in Powai. An officer said the woman's husband, Mehtab, works at a denim manufacturing factory in Andheri's Sakinaka. The incident occurred on August 14, when Mehtab called his wife and verbally pronounced her triple talaq. In her complaint, the woman said that from June 17 to August 14, she was mentally and physically harassed by the accused. The woman also alleged that her husband beat her frequently while her sister-in-law abused and assaulted her and outraged her modesty. The victim has been identified as Kashish Mehtab Ansari (23).

Acting on her complaint, the police registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Protection of Muslim Women's Rights. Speaking about the incident, Anand Rathod, police sub-inspector of Bhoiwada police station, said, "The victim approached us about the incident. He also said that no arrest has been made so far. The police have issued a notice to the accused to appear before them.
