Aurangabad, August 18: The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) member who was thrashed on Friday by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Corporators for objecting to paying tributes to Former Prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has been arrested. According to a report published by DNA, Syed Matin was arrested on Saturday. Yesterday he opposed to a resolution in Aurangabad Municipal Corporation for paying tributes to the former prime minister. He was arrested on charges of hurting religious sentiments, hurting communal harmony and inciting riots.

According to the report, AIMIM District President Jawed Qureshi was also arrested along with Matin. Shiv Sena corporators came forward to rescue Mateen. Talking to media, AIMIM's Naser Siddiqui said,"our leaders opposed Mateen for it. BJP members thrashed him, but Shiv Sena came to his rescue. It can be a conspiracy.” However, BJP leaders alleged the AIMIM corporator for using ‘mean’ word for the former prime minister. The leaders said, “We tried to make Syed Matin understand, but he used such mean word for Atal Bihari Vajpayee that we can't even repeat. We lost control because of that word and expressed our anger. He is a repeat offender, had earlier disrespected Vande Mataram.”

BJP corporator Raju Vaidya tabled a proposal to pay tributes to Vajpayee. AIMIM corporator Matin opposed it, which infuriated the BJP members, who allegedly rushed to him and thrashed him in the House. A video clip of the incident also went viral on social media showing Mateen being kicked, punched and slapped by the BJP corporators.

Vajpayee, 93, died on Thursday at AIIMS in Delhi. He was hospitalised since June 11, after he had contracted an infection in the urinary tract and developed chest congestion. The former three-time PM's overall health had deteriorated in 2009 after he suffered a stroke which led to dementia. He was since left speech-impaired.
