New Delhi, March 6: Swine flu cases are on a rise across India with over 2,500 cases of seasonal influenza (H1N1) reported in just one week till March 3. According to details by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), there has been a sudden spike in H1N1 virus cases between February 24 and March 3. The reports states that as many as 17,366 cases and 530 deaths were recorded in the country until March 3. Till February 22, a total of 379 people had lost their lives across the nation, while the number of those infected by the H1N1 virus crossed over 12,000. Among the affected states in India, Rajasthan topped the list with the largest number of cases at 131 in just 2 months followed by Gujarat, Punjab, Delhi and Telangana. Swine flu is a self-limiting viral, air-borne disease spread from person-to-person, through large droplets generated through coughing and sneezing. The symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, difficulty in breathing. Other symptoms may include body ache, headache, fatigue, chills, diarrhoea and vomiting and blood-stained sputum.
The virus is also spread through indirect contact by touching a contaminated object or surface (fomite transmission like telephone, cell phones, computers, door handles, door bells, pens, toys etc) and close contact (including hand shaking, hugging, kissing).
