Swine Flu Kills 379 Across India, Over 12,000 Infected, Rajasthan Worst Hit With 131 Deaths
With two fresh death cases in Rajasthan on Thursday, the death toll due to the virus in the state has climbed to 131 in 2019. The deceased were from Pali and Barmer districts of the state.
New Delhi, February 22: India has been witnessing an alarming rise in the number of swine flu cases, with the death toll mounting to 379 across the nation. Meanwhile, the number of those infected by the H1N1 virus has seen a spike and has crossed the 12,000 mark till date. With two fresh death cases in Rajasthan on Thursday, the death toll due to the virus in the state has climbed to 131 in 2019. The deceased were from Pali and Barmer districts of the state. Moreover, fresh 61 new cases were reported in the state, taking the number of patients to 3,753 in 52 days. Meanwhile, Gujarat was placed second on the list with 71 deaths and 1,983 cases. In Rajasthan:
Rajasthan is the worst hit with 61 fresh cases of Swine Flu. Jaipur witnessed the highest number of 31 patients, followed by five each in Jodhpur and Udaipur. Reports informed that 3 cases were reported from Bhilwara, while two cases each were reported from Bikaner, Alwar, Dausa, Jaisalmer, Barmer and Kota. In Delhi:
As many as seven people died while 2,278 people were infected by the virus in the national capital. The Drug Controller General of India has been asked to coordinate with drug manufacturers and monitor the availability of Oseltamivir, the medicine recommended by WHO, in various states. In Telangana:
In Telangana, at least 496 people testing positive for the infectious seasonal influenza so far this year.Dr K Shankar, Director, Government Institute of Preventive Medicine, IPM told ANI, “In January month of 2019 we have tested 1657 Swine flu samples from across the Telangana state in which 307 turned Swine Flu positive.
In Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh:
Punjab reported 31 deaths and 410 cases, followed by Madhya Pradesh where 30 people were kileld and 128 cases were reported. In Himachal Pradesh, 27 people died due to the virus and 224 were infected.
In Jammu and Kashmir and Maharashtra:
In Jammu and Kashmir, 22 deaths were reported while 293 cases were registered for being infected by the virus. In Maharashtra, as many as 17 people were killed while nearly 330 cases were reported from the state. In Haryana, seven people died while 752 people were affected.
In the wake of the rising swine flu cases across the country, the Health Ministry has asked state governments to bolster their surveillance for early detection of the disease and keep beds reserved in hospitals to deal with acute cases, which require ventilator facility.
