Mumbai, November 1: A total of 302 deaths have been reported in Maharashtra this year due to swine flu. According to a tweet by ANI, the State surveillance officer informed that 302 deaths reported this yr, with 325 people still in hospitals. The officer further informed that 22-23 patients are on a ventilator. The officer advised that people should immediately go to a doctor when they experience a flu-like symptom.
According to a report by PTI, as many as 542 people have died of swine flu across the nation in 2018 with Maharashtra alone accounting for almost 50 per cent of the fatalities. Out of 1,793 cases reported till October, Maharashtra recorded 302 deaths so far. It was followed by Rajasthan where 191 people succumbed to H1N1 complications out of 1,912 cases during the same period. In Gujarat, 45 persons died out of 1,478 reported cases, the official said. In 2018, a vaccine to prevent swine flu was administered free of cost to 54000 people in Maharashtra between January and May this year, Health Minister Deepak Sawant had informed. Earlier in May, the Health Minister had informed that Pune division had the highest number of vaccinations at 25,000 followed by Mumbai (12,000), Nagpur (4,000), Aurangabad (3,500) and Kolhapur (2,000). In 2017, a total of 42,492 people were administered the swine flu vaccine in the state.
