Swine Flu Claims Life of Karnataka Cadre IPS Officer K Madhukar Shetty
Indian Police Services (IPS) K Madhukar Shetty died of swine flu at around 8:15 pm today in Hyderabad. He was admitted to a private hospital after being diagnosed with swine flu. The 47-year-old IPS officer was undergoing treatment at Continental Hospitals for over a week.
Hyderabad, December 28: Indian Police Services (IPS) K Madhukar Shetty died of swine flu at around 8:15 pm today in Hyderabad. He was admitted to a private hospital after being diagnosed with the H1N1 virus. The 47-year-old IPS officer was undergoing treatment at Continental Hospitals for over a week. His heart and lungs were infected. He belonged to Udupi district of Karnataka. Shetty was a 1999-batch IPS officer of Karnataka-cadre. The IPS officer was known for his role in the Karnataka Lokayukta’s inquiry into the illegal mining scam in Ballari district. Before attempting the civil services examination, he pursued Master of Arts in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Shetty along with the then Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta aggressively launched a drive to clear encroachment of government land. He also participated in anti-Veerappan operations and was part of Anti-Naxal Force. The 47-year-old IPS officer had worked with the War Crimes Investigation Unit in United Nations Mission, Kosovo. He was promoted to the rank of DIG after completing his PhD in Public Administration from Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy from the United States.
Meanwhile, a total of 2,192 cases of swine flu have been reported from Rajasthan from January 1 to December 21, 2018. However, Maharashtra is the worst affected state from swine flu. More than 2,500 cases were recorded from here, whereas, 2,263 were affected by the virus in Tamil Nadu till December this year.
