Jaipur, February 2: A total of 84 people have lost their lives due to swine flu in Rajasthan between January 1 and February 2 and over 2,289 positive cases have been reported across the state this year. Out of the total deaths, two people died in Barmer and Udaipur today due to the H1N1 virus. Five of the state districts which are most affected by the virus are Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Udaipur and Baran. Meanwhile, on Thursday, three deaths were reported in the state because of the virus. One death each was reported from Jodhpur, Barmer and Sriganganagar. Till January 31, 25 cases were reported from Jaipur, while nine cases each were reported from Bikaner and Sriganganagar.
Health Minister Raghu Sharma on Wednesday held a meeting in Jodhpur with health department officials. The government also asked government hospitals to intensify efforts for containing the spread of swine flu. Till now, 11 centres are there in the state for the testing of H1N1 including three private laboratories, and the government will increase this number to 50. The H1N1 virus is also known as Swine flu is a respiratory disease which is caused by the influenza virus that infects pigs, resulting in a cough, decreased appetite and nasal secretion. This virus can also infect humans and other animals. Swine Flu can spread from person to person and considered very contagious.
