New York, September 29: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today addressed the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). During her address, Swaraj slammed Pakistan for shielding Hafiz Sayeed, the mastermind of 26/11 Mumbai attacks. She also took a dig at the neighbouring country for giving shelter to 9/11 US attack mastermind Osama Bin Laden. The EAM also targeted Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan for playing a double game.

She said that on one hand Pakistan invited India for talks and on other hand killed three the Border Security Personnel (BSF). While speaking on cross-border terrorism, she added, “In our case, terrorism is bred not in some faraway land, but across our border. Our neighbour’s expertise is not restricted to spawning grounds for terrorism; it is also an expert in trying to mask malevolence with verbal duplicity.” Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi Makes Personal Attack On Sushma Swaraj After Snubbed at Saarc Meet

Swaraj also mocked Pakistan for levelling false accusations against India. She also cited the example of Pakistan’s representative, using right to reply last year, displayed some photographs as “proof” of “human rights violations” by India but these photographs turned out to be from another country. The External Affairs Minister also stated that in 1996, India proposed a draft document on CCIT at the United Nations. She further added that till today, that draft had remained a draft, because we cannot agree on a common language and on the one hand, we want to fight terrorism; on the other, we cannot define it.

Swaraj also accused the neighbouring country of glorifying killers. She said, “Who can be a greater transgressor of human rights than a terrorist? Those who take innocent human lives in pursuit of war by other means are defenders of inhuman behaviour, not of human rights.” Sushma Swaraj Tears Into Pakistan at UNGA, Blames Islamabad For Derailment of Talks: Read Full Text of EAM's Speech

Every countries goal should be kept in perspective, said Swaraj. The EAM also highlighted that the Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of non-violence are essentials for decision making in the UN.

The foreign minister also addressed the challenge of climate change. She said, “f we have to save the world from the adverse effects of climate change, then developed nations must lift the deprived with financial and technical resources.” During her speech at the UNGA, Swaraj also highlighted various economic policies initiated by the Narendra Modi government. She said, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has initiated unprecedented economic and social transformation that will help India achieve its goals much before time.” She even said that the Modi government is working on the upliftment of women.
