Supreme Court Verdict on Whether Chief Justice of India's Office Comes Under RTI Act to Be Delivered Tomorrow

New Delhi, November 12: The Supreme Court on Wednesday will pronounce the judgement on the case whether the office of the Chief Justice of India comes under the purview of the transparency law, Right to Information (RTI) Act or not.

Five-judge bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice NV Ramana, Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Sanjiv Khanna will pass the verdict. In April, the Supreme Court had reserved its judgment on a petition seeking clarification whether the office of Chief Justice of India is covered under the Right to Information (RTI) Act. Following the Ayodhya verdict, Gogoi who will retire on November 17 is expected to pass his judgment on important cases like-Rafale, Sabarimala and the application of Right to Information law (RTI) on the CJI’s office.

In a historic judgement in the Ayodhya land dispute case, the Supreme Court on Saturday asked the Centre to form a trust within three months, which will build a temple at the disputed site. The Sunni Waqf Board, on the other hand, to be given an alternate five-acre land at some other suitable place for construction of a mosque, said a 5-member bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, said in a unanimous judgement.
