Nilakkal, October 23: The Supreme Court on Tuesday said that it will consider petitions seeking review of its Sabarimala verdict allowing entry of women of all ages into the temple on November 13 at 3 PM. The court had on October 9 declined an urgent hearing of plea which contended the earlier verdict of Former CJI Deepak Misra stating that lifting the ban would be 'absolutely untenable and irrational'. Why These 5 Arguments in Favour of Restricting Women’s Entry Into the Ayyappa Temple Are Baseless.

This comes after the bench of CJI Gogoi on Monday stated that they will hear the Sabarimala case and decide on whether the petition for review will be listed or not for hearing. Nearly 19 petitions have been filed in the apex court seeking to review its order allowing women of all ages to enter the temple. This comes after the gates of the temple were opened for women but due to heavy protest, the women were forced to return. The devotees while denying entry to women stated that it's a violation of Sabarimala's 'age-old tradition' which Supreme Court considered as 'discrimination against women'. Dalit Activist Makes Failed Bid to Reach Shrine on Last Day of Pilgrimage.

When the gates of the temple were opened, several women devotees tried to enter the sanctum sanctorum but were stopped by the protestors. Earlier last week, when two women- Journalist Kavitha Jakkal and Woman activist Rehana Fathima - managed to reach just a few metres away from the Sabarimala gates, they had to return back after the head priest of the temple warned them that he will close the doors and stop all the rituals.
