Supreme Court Slaps Rs 50,000 Fine on Lawyer Manohar Lal Sharma Over ‘Baseless’ PIL Against Arun Jaitley
The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by lawyer Manohar Lal Sharma, seeking action against the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley relating to the capital reserve of the Reserve Bank of India.
New Delhi, December 7: The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by lawyer Manohar Lal Sharma, seeking action against the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley relating to the capital reserve of the Reserve Bank of India. Sharma alleged that Jaitley wanted to "plunder" capital reserve of RBI to waive off the loan to certain companies. A bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice S K Kaul said, "We find no reason whatsoever to entertain this PIL." The bench of judges further said that "You want us to restrain the finance minister... You have done some good work. Why are you destroying your credibility," the Chief Justice told Sharma. The bench also said that the time has come to take a look at petition's wasting the court's time.
