Supreme Court Says Piling of Garbage In Delhi Has to Be Reduced, Seeks Suggestion List

The Supreme Court asked the senior lawyer, Colin Gonsalves, to prepare a suggestion list as to how the issue of garbage disposal can be dealt with.

New Delhi, July 16: The Supreme Court on Monday, on the issue of garbage disposal and waste management in Delhi, said that the the piling of garbage in the national capital has to be reduced. The apex court also asked a senior lawyer to chip in with a suggestion list that can help solve the problem of garbage and waste management in Delhi.

The Supreme Court asked the senior lawyer, Colin Gonsalves, to prepare a suggestion list as to how the issue of garbage disposal can be dealt with, tweeted news agency ANI:

The Supreme Court on Friday had given a piece of its mind on the matter of disposing garbage and the way solid waste management was dealt with in the capital. The top court had also taken the Delhi LG to task and reprimanded the LG for missing a crucial meeting on the topic of garbage disposal by saying that "you keep saying that you have the power and that you are a superman." The Supreme Court also said that the LG was doing nothing to clear the mountains of garbage that have got collected in Delhi.

Earlier, the Supreme Court on July 10 had asked the Centre and the Delhi government to clarify at the earliest as to who could be held responsible for clearing the "mountain loads of garbage" in the national capital.
