New Delhi, July 20: The Supreme Court Collegium has made several recommendations and appointments on Friday. The collegium system is a system under which appointments and transfers of judges are decided by a forum of the Chief Justice of India and the four senior-most judges of the Supreme Court.
The following are the recommendations of the Supreme Court Collegium made on Friday.
1. Appointment of Justice MR Shah of Gujarat High Court to be appointed as the Chief Justice of Patna High Court.
2. Appointment of Justice VK Tahilramani of Bombay HC to be appointed as the Chief Justice of Madras High Court - post the elevation of Justice Indira Banerjee as a Supreme Court judge.
3. Appointment of Justice Hrishikesh Roy of Guwahati HC and acting Chief Justice of Kerala High Court to be appointed as the Chief Justice of Kerala HC.
4. Appointment of Acting Chief Justice of Delhi HC Justice Gita Mittal to be appointed as the Chief Justice of J&K High Court& appointment of Justice Aniruddha Bose senior judge of Calcutta HC as the Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court.
5. The Supreme Court Collegium reiterated the name of Uttarakhand HC Chief Justice KM Joseph to be appointed to the Supreme Court.
6. Supreme Court reserved order on the matter whether Ismail Farooqui's judgement will go to the Constitution bench or not , in which he had said that the mosque is not an integral part of Islam.
The Collegium of the Supreme Court comprises of 5 senior most Judges which also includes the Chief Justice of India (CJI). The judges together decide the elevation of Chief Justices/Judges of High Court to Supreme Court, and the elevation of Judges of High Courts as Chief Justices and elevation of Judges.
