Supreme Court Allows Mehbooba Mufti's Daughter Iltija to Travel From Chennai to Srinagar to Meet Her Mother in Private

The Supreme Court has allowed Jammu and Kashmir former CM Mehbooba Mufti's daughter Iltija to travel from Chennai to Srinagar to meet her mother in private. The court, however, said that she can move in other parts of Srinagar and it would be subject to prior permission from the authorities if needed.

New Delhi, September 5: The Supreme Court has allowed Jammu and Kashmir former CM Mehbooba Mufti's daughter Iltija to travel from Chennai to Srinagar to meet her mother in private. According to an ANI update, the Apex court has said that she can move in other parts of Srinagar and it would be subject to prior permission from the authorities if needed. On Wednesday Iltija Mufti moved the Supreme Court seeking directions to the authorities to allow her to meet her mother, who is under detention following the scrapping of Article 370 from the state. She mentioned in her petition that she is concerned about her mother's health as she has not met her in a month.

Her petition was listed for hearing on Thursday before a bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices S A Bobde and S A Nazeer.

On September 1, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti were allowed to meet their families nearly a month after the abrogation of Article 370, according to a report. Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti are under "preventive detention" since the Modi government's August 5 announcement of the scrapping of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution.
