Ramban, October 23: Hours before Lance Naik Ranjeet Singh’s mortal remains were consigned to flames at his ancestral village in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, his wife Shimpu Devi delivered a baby girl on Tuesday. Lance Naik Singh lost his life on Sunday, while fighting with infiltrator along the Line of Control (LoC) in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district. The couple waited for their first child for 10 years. According to reports, the body of 36-year-old brave-heart reached his Suligam village on Monday after a wreath-laying ceremony at Akhnoor Garrison. The family decided to cremate the body on Tuesday. Meanwhile, around midnight, his wife went into labour pain and was admitted to a district hospital where she delivered the baby girl at around 5 am. His wife after delivering the baby-girl said, "I wish my daughter too joins the Indian army and serves the nation like her father." The last rites of the soldier were performed with full military honours. Lance Naik Singh is survived by his parents, three younger sisters and as many brothers. All of them live in a joint family. The brave-heart had joined the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry regiment of the Indian Army in 2003. As per reports, he was planning to take leave to be with his pregnant wife.
On October 21, Three Indian Army jawans, including Lance Naik Singh were martyred in a combat with heavily-armed terrorists near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu's Sunderbani sector. One soldier was also injured in the encounter. Two Pakistani intruders were also neutralised in the encounter. From the encounter site, the forces have recovered two AK-47 rifles.
