Wilson had fallen into a 25-feet abandoned borewell in Nadupatti village of Tiruchirappalli district on October 25. Subsequently, an operation was launched by the state rescue board along with the local authorities to bring the child out alive.

Since the borewell is only 4-diameter wide, the rescue personnel were forced to dig an adjacent hole to reach out to the infant. In the process, the soft mud slipped further taking the child to a depth of nearly 100 feet beneath the surface.

Deputy CM O Panneerselvam issued a press conference earlier on Monday, saying that the hard rocks beneath the surface is forcing the rescue workers to tread cautiously. "The rescue operation is taking time as the team has to act very carefully. We are hopeful that the child will be brought out alive. The operation is being keenly monitored," he said.
