Efforts to pull the boy out is currently underway using a rig machine. The teams involved to rescue the toddler are digging a bigger hold adjacent to the borewell. The rescue workers are expected to use to the bigger hole to reach out to the boy in the adjacent borewell.
The authorities on the ground said the boy could no longer be heard weeping. This has caused worry among the family of the infant, along with the locals. The rescuers, however, said they believe the boy is alive and breathing normally. Oxygen is being pumped into the well to assist the infant in breathing, said another official.
Tamil Nadu Health Minister Vijayabaskar, who is present at the ground to monitor the rescue operation, said the government is closely watching all the details related to the rescue operation. All possible steps will be taken in attempt to save the toddler's life, he said.
In the wee hours of Sunday, the rescue workers attempted to bring out the infant using the suction method -- which is used in bringing a new born baby out of the womb.
Notably, the borewell in which the child is stuck has only a four inch diameter, which is severely hindering the rescue operations. The child, reports said, is stranded in a position which made it difficult to pull him out using a rope.
