Chennai, September 2: A shocking incident of suicide has come to light from Tamil Nadu, where a 23-year-old medical student allegedly ended her life by jumping off the fifth floor of a medical college hostel in Kancheepuram. The alleged incident occurred on Sunday night, September 1. Police officials said that the deceased, identified as Sherley from the Tuticorin district, was a fifth-year student at Meenakshi Medical College.

According to a report in the Times of India, on September 1 at around 8:30 PM, Sherley was crying while sitting on the fifth floor of the hostel. The college's staff and students saw her crying and requested she come down; however, Sherley turned down their request. After this, college authorities started putting up nets to catch her in case she jumped. Trichy Shocker: Mother of 4 in Tamil Nadu Dies After Taking Unsupervised Abortion Pills to Avoid 5th Pregnancy.

However, before they could finish the work of setting up the net, Sherley jumped from the fifth floor. College authorities immediately rushed Sherley to the college hospital and administered emergency treatment. However, Sherley succumbed to her injuries on Sunday night. While an investigation has been launched in connection with the incident, cops learned that Sherley had been in love with a fellow student since her first year.

They also found out that the deceased medical student had a fallout with her partner in their third year. Following this, the two stopped speaking to each other. An official said that the breakup caused significant mental distress to Sherley. Cops also learnt that the deceased woman's father even tried to reconcile the two, but the couple's relationship issues continued to grow. This is suspected to have led Sherley to end her life. Tamil Nadu Shocker: Woman Employee of AAVIN Dies After ‘Accidently’ Falling Into Conveyor Belt at Dairy Unit in Tiruvallur.
