Bengaluru, June 11: A suicide attempt occurred at Hosahalli Metro Station as a man suffering from depression tried to end his life by jumping in front of a Metro train. Fortunately, he survived due to the timely activation of the Emergency Trip System. The incident took place at 8:56 pm on Monday, June 10, resulting in the man sustaining minor head injuries. The disruption caused by the incident led to service interruptions on the Purple Line for over half an hour, impacting commuters during the evening rush hour.
According to a report by The New Indian Express, another commuter who saw the man rushing towards the approaching metro train pressed the Emergency Trip System button on the platform, immediately halting the train. The 34-year-old man fell between the tracks and crawled from underneath the train after it stopped. As per the Hindu report, the fully conscious man was then rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment and is reported to have sustained minor injuries on his head. Disruption in Metro Services
This marks the third such incident of suicide attempt in the Bengaluru metro track this year, with one reported fatality. The incident prompted a disruption in metro services for 33 minutes between Nadaprabhu Kempegowda and Mysuru Road stations. As per the report, the train headed towards Challaghatta was nearing Platform 2 at Hosahalli station at 8:56 pm when the man jumped in front of it. Normalcy resumed on the Purple Line by 9:30 pm, following short loop services between Challaghatta and Mysore Road and between Kempegowda station and Whitefield (Kadugodi). While the exact identity of the individual who activated the emergency system remains unclear, authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to ascertain the sequence of events. The victim, who remains anonymous due to his medical condition, is currently under observation at a local hospital.
