Mumbai, June 30: Subodh K Jaiswal, an IPS officer of 1985 batch, is likely to be the next Commissioner of Police of Mumbai. Reports say that Jaiswal, who is currently on central deputation duty, is likely to return to Maharashtra and become the Mumbai Police Commissioner after Datta Padsalgikar gets promoted as the Director General of Police (DGP).
Earlier this year, the Maharashtra government had reportedly written to Jaiswal asking him if he would be ready to return to the state and take over the responsibility of the Mumbai CP. Reports say that Jaiswal met officials from the Maharashtra Chief Minister's Office and discussed the option of returning to state service.
Jaiswal is currently on deputation with the RAW. He probed the fake stamp paper scam in 2002-2003 involving Telgi and the 2006 Malegaon blasts case. He was the additional commissioner of police when BJP leader Pramod Mahajan was shot dead by his brother.
