New Delhi, July 25: Senior bureaucrat Subhash Chandra Garg on Thursday, July 25, applied for voluntary retirement from the service, said NDTV Sources. This development comes after Ghag was shifted to Power Ministry from the high profile Ministry of Finance. He was in-charge of the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) and was designated as the Finance Secretary. On July 24, Ghag was moved to Power Ministry to replace Power Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, who is recently appointed as the new Home Secretary. In a major reshuffle, Ghag was replaced by the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) Secretary Atanu Chakraborty.

It is not clear when Ghuj submitted a voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) application. If he hadn't applied for VRS, he would retire in October 2020. According to Livemint, Ghag held a farewell today where he told his colleagues about his plan of opting VRS.

1983 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Rajasthan cadre, Ghag came to the centre in 2014 as the Executive Director in the World Bank till 2017, after that he was appointed DEA Secretary. In December 2018, he was elevated as the Finance Secretary.
