Jorhat, September 5: A 24-year-old final-year MBBS student from Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) died by suicide at his residence in Tarapur on Tuesday night, September 3. He was found hanging at his home. The police recovered suicide notes from his room in which he asked for forgiveness from his mother. A probe has been launched into the suicide case.

According to a report published by the Hindustan Times, the student, who was pursuing his MBBS, reportedly hanged himself around 10 pm. Police arrived at the scene approximately half an hour later. Two notes were recovered from his room, in which he expressed his struggle with depression and sought forgiveness from his mother. “Mother, forgive me. I am leaving you today. I am unable to handle the depression and I feel a pain near my chest,” read one note. The handwriting in the notes has been verified by the family, though they will undergo further examination as per legal procedures. “Prima facie evidence suggests this was a suicide,” a police official said. The body has been sent to SMCH for a postmortem examination, and an investigation is ongoing. In February this year, a class 12 student of a private school allegedly died by suicide a day before his Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Board Exams (AISSCE) were scheduled to start. The incident took place in his apartment at Chandan Nagar, located in the Survey area of the city. The student, known for his academic excellence, was living alone under the supervision of a caretaker. He had previously secured the fifth rank nationally in the class 10 CBSE final exams (AISSE).
