Ahmedabad, June 12: Strong winds and dust swept Somnath Temple in Gujarat's Gir Somnath district on Wednesday as Cyclone Vayu approaches coastal areas in the state. In a video, a chaos-type situation can be seen at Somnath Temple due to strong winds and dust. There is no immediate report of any damage to the temple.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Vayu will cross the Gujarat coast between Dwarka and Veraval as a very severe cyclonic storm with wind speed 155-165 kmph around the afternoon of June 13. The Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority said as many as 1,64,090 people have been evacuated from 10 affected areas on Wednesday. All preparations are in place to deal with any emergencies arising of the Cyclone Vayu’s impact, authorities said. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed a total number of 36 teams to conduct operations in Gujarat ahead of cyclone Vayu’s impact on the land. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the Centre is “closely monitoring the situation” in Gujarat and other parts which may be impacted by the cyclonic storm. "The Central Government is closely monitoring the situation due to Cyclone Vayu in Gujarat and other parts of India. I have been constantly in touch with state Governments. NDRF and other agencies are working round the clock to provide all possible assistance," Prime Minister tweeted.
