Prime Minister Narendra Modi says, "if it was not for Sardar Sahab's resolve, then we Indians would have to take visa to see the Gir lions, pray at Somnath, or to see Hyderabad's Charminar".

The Prime Minister said this is a project that we had thought about during the time when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. "To build the Statue Of Unity, lakhs of farmers from all over India came together, gave their tools, portions of soil and thus, a mass movement started", PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister said today is a day that will be remembered in the history of India. He said No Indian will ever forget this day."This is a project that we had thought about during the time I was the Chief Minister of Gujarat", the Prime Minister added.

After inaugurating the Statue of Unity, PM Modi said are all delighted to be here, on the banks of the Narmada as the nation marks Ekta Diwas. The Prime Minister said several people across India are taking part in the 'Run for Unity' on this occasion. "Events like today are very very important in a country's history and such events are difficult to erase. It is a historic and inspiring occasion for all Indians. I am fortunate to dedicate this statue of Sardar Sahab to the nation",  PM Modi said at the inauguration of Statue Of Unity.

As part of the inauguration ceremony, the Prime Minister will pour soil and water from Narmada river into a 'Kalash' to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel. He would also perform a 'virtual Abhishek' of the statue. He will also perform a special prayer at the feet of the Statue of Unity and later visit the museum, exhibition and the viewer's gallery.

L Eswar Rao, a miniature artist from Jatni in Bhubaneswar, has made a miniature model of Sardar Patel's Statue Of Unity. He said that it took him three days to make it, news agency ANI reported. Here are a few pictures of the miniature Statue of Unity.

Infrastructure giant Larsen & Toubro Ltd. claimed that the statue has been engineered to withstand wind speeds of up to 50 m per second (almost 180 km). The Statue of Unity can also survive earthquakes measuring up to 6.5 on the Richter Scale, at a depth of 10 km and within a radius of 12 km of the statue.

The Sardar Patel statue, twice as tall as the Statue of Liberty, has been built at a cost of Rs. 2,989 crore and is located in Gujarat, 3.2 km downstream of the Narmada dam.

The Statue fo Unity is taller than the 153m Spring Temple Buddha in China and twice the height of the world-famous Statue of Liberty in New York. The statue was built at a cost of Rs 2,389 crore and stands tall at 3.2 km downstream of the Narmada dam on the islet. Read Full Story Here.

Narendra Modi will shortly arrive at the Wall of Unity, and inaugurate the Statue of Unity. At the feet of the Statue of Unity, the Prime Minister will perform a special prayer. He shall visit the Museum and Exhibition, and the Viewers’ Gallery. This gallery, at 153 metres height, can accommodate upto 200 visitors at one time. It offers a spectacular view of the Sardar Sarovar Dam, its reservoir, and the Satpura and Vindhya mountain ranges.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Kevadiya where he will inaugurate Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's Statue Of Unity today. The Prime Minister arrived in Ahmedabad on Tuesday night ahead of the unveiling of the 'Statue of Unity' in Gujarat's Narmada district on the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman while speaking at the Run For Unity event in Tamil Nadu's Chennai remembered Patel and said, "Post our freedom movement, Sardar Patel worked hard to get more than 550 princely states together to make India one. It's only right that we remember him today".

While speaking at the 'Run for Unity' event in Delhi, Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's statue which is the tallest in the world should have been made years ago. "India has today paid tribute to a man who built India", Rathore added.

On the occasion of the 143rd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore flagged off “Run for Unity” in Delhi. Gymnast Dipa Karmakar among other sportsperson also present.
