Patna, August 12: One person was killed and several others were injured in a stampede due to overcrowding at Ashokdham Temple in Bihar. According to a tweet by ANI, the incident took place on Monday in Lakhisarai district. As soon as the incident was reported, Police and medical teams were rushed to the spot. The temple is dedicated to the primary deity lord Shiva surrounded by three more temples dedicated to Goddess Parvati, mount of the Shiva Nandi and Goddess Durga. Reports inform that devotees thronged in large numbers, making the crowd uncontrollable. Some people were also reported to have crossed over barricades installed by the police.
The temple holds a great religious significance for the Hindus. During Maha Shivratri every year, millions of pilgrims from various parts of India visit this shrine and offer sacred water of Ganges to the deity.
The incident took place when a number of devotees of lord Shiva had arrived to offer prayers. Ashokdham Mandir which is also known as Indradamneshwar Mahadev Mandir is located in Lakhisarai district in Bihar. It is a temple complex having Indradamneshwar Mahadev Mandir in the center.
