Srinagar, May 1: In a bizarre incident in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar, a patient who successfully underwent gastric surgery was re-admitted to the Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital nearly 15 minutes after being discharged. Notably, the patient was readmitted to the SMHS hospital due to a pothole-filled road. The incident occurred when the patient was on his way home.

According to a report in Greater Kashmir, the alleged incident occurred when the patient was on his way home in Chadoora from the SMHS hospital. Hospital officials said that the patient had to navigate through a pothole-ridden road. The journey back home proved risky for the patient's post-operative condition, forcing the patient to return to the hospital and seek readmission for further treatment. Jammu and Kashmir Landslide: Jammu-Srinagar National Highway Blocked for Traffic After Landslide at Gangroo in Ramban (Watch Video).

As per the report, the road connecting Karan Nagar to SMHS Hospital has been undergoing construction work for the last year. This has left the road in despair, forcing people to use the bumpy, pothole-filled road for travel. Patients who come to SMHS hospital have been facing trouble using the road after their treatment or surgeries.

This also puts them at risk as their post-operative condition takes a hit due to the bumpy road. A senior doctor of the hospital said that a bumpy ride could potentially reopen wounds and injuries and cause severe discomfort to the patient. "It’s an absolute nightmare travelling on these roads after a major surgery," he added. Jammu and Kashmir: NIA Raids Nine Locations in Srinagar in Terror Case (Watch Videos).

In addition to patients, the pothole-ridden road has also slowed the movement of ambulances, thereby creating a delay for patients who are in need of urgent medical attention. While the bumpy road filled with potholes has also impacted businesses, Abdul Qayoom Kirmani, Chief Engineer of Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL), said that the pending work on the road stretch would be completed soon.
