Srinagar, May 17: A high alert has been issued at Srinagar and Awantipora airbase stations in Jammu and Kashmir after hand-drawn maps of these airbases were recovered from terrorists. "Hand drawn maps of the Srinagar and Avantipur air bases have been recovered from terrorists by the security forces after which a high alert has been sounded there," government sources told ANI.
According to reports, these maps were recovered on May 16. These bases have been at the target of terrorists for a long time but threat perception has enhanced significantly after the Balakot airstrikes, the sources said. The Srinagar airbase was at the forefront when the Pakistani fighter jets violated the Indian airspace on February 27. Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman took off from the Srinagar air base and intercepted the Pakistani F-16 fighter jet. The IAF officer shot down the F-16 jet with Mig-21 Bison before his warplane got hit. He ejected safely but drifted to the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Meanwhile, last month reports surfaced that terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) issued a threat to blow up five railway stations under Firozpur railway division. In the wake of the threat, Railway officials were asked to maintain a high vigil to avoid any untoward incident.
