Varanasi, January 6: A Delhi-bound Spicejet was forced to make an emergency landing at Varanasi airport due to major snag in the engine on mid-air. A Boeing 737 Max, SpiceJet flight from Hongkong to Delhi made an emergency landing due to a snag in the left engine at the Varanasi airport at 10 am on Sunday, said Varanasi Airport Director. “The engine has a ‘servo valve’ that regulates the flow of fuel developed a snag. Fuel flow to this engine got affected then and it flamed out meaning there was no power in it. Flame-out meaning there was no power in it. Flame-out does not mean there was a fire in the engine, it just stopped working,” said sources to Times of India. In a similar incident, an Air India flight made an emergency landing at Kolkata airport on Saturday evening due to fuel leakage from the right wing of the plane. The full emergency was declared on Kolkata airport when Bangkok to Delhi flight, AI 335, decided to make an emergency landing.
All passengers were safe. "At around 10:35 pm, due to a suspected technical glitch, Bkk-Del AI335, operated with an A320neo made a precautionary landing at Kolkata airport. Passengers were later flown to Delhi at 2:30 am. Aircraft operated on Kolkata-Mumbai route this morning after thorough checks," the airline said.
