Tuticorin, July 4: A police team responding to a break-in at a retired teacher’s house in Tamil Nadu’s Tuticorin discovered 60,000 in cash and valuable jewellery had been stolen. The thief left behind a note promising to return the loot within a month, citing a need for money to treat a sick family member.

The New Indian Express reported that the break-in occurred at the residence of Chithirai Selvin, 79, and his wife, both retired teachers. On Tuesday evening, the maid discovered the break-in and immediately alerted Selvin and the Meignanapuram police. Upon inspection, police found that two pairs of gold earrings and silver anklets were also missing. Alongside the stolen items, they found a note written in green ink on an envelope, which read in Tamil: “Forgive me. I will return [it] in one month. The police have registered a case and are examining the letter and other evidence. The elderly couple is now left waiting to see if the burglar will fulfill his promise or if he will be apprehended beforehand.

In another news, a thief who had stolen Lord Krishna's jewels from the Gopinath Temple in Odisha's Gopinathpur, returned them after 9 years, with a note stating that he had been haunted by nightmares ever since he had stolen them.

Apparently, the man realised the error of his ways after reading the Bhagavad Gita. The jewels belonged to the presiding deities Krishna and Radha and were worth lakhs.
