Snake Boiga Thackerayi: Uddhav Thackeray's Son Tejas Discovers New Species of Cat Snake in Western Ghats; See Pic

Mumbai, September 26: Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray's son and Yuva Sena President Aaditya Thackeray on Thursday tweeted an image of a newly discovered snake- Boiga thackerayi sp. nov. The new species of a cat snake was found from the Sahyadri tiger reserve in the Western Ghats region of Maharashtra. In a tweet, Aaditya Thackeray said that the snake was named after his brother Tejas Thackeray for his immense contribution towards discovering this new species.

"Boiga thackerayi sp. nov - Thackeray’s cat snake, a new species with Tiger like stripes on it’s body from the Sahyadri tiger reserve in Maharashtra!," Aditya tweeted. "My brother, Tejas discovered this beautiful species of the snake in the Western Ghats! Aaditya Thackeray Tweets:

"The first Boiga to be described from the western ghats in 125 years! Known to feed exclusively on tree frogs & their eggs, An extremely specialised habitat dweller, it’s found on trees over hanging rain-fed streams in it’s [sic] misty montane rainforest habitat," Aaditya said.

This is not Tejas’ first contribution; earlier too he had discovered a new species of the gecko lizard in Tamil Nadu. It too was named after Tejas – cnemaspis thackerayi.
