Smriti Irani Assumes Charge at Women and Child Development Ministry

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament (MP) Smriti Irani on Monday took charge as the Union Women and Child Development (WCD) Minister. Amethi MP was welcomed by senior officials of the ministry and MoS in the WCD Ministry Debashree Chaudhuri.

New Delhi, June 3: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament (MP) Smriti Irani on Monday took charge as the Union Women and Child Development (WCD) Minister. Amethi MP was welcomed by senior officials of the ministry and MoS in the WCD Ministry Debashree Chaudhuri. After assuming the charge, Irani held a meeting with the ministry officials. Ajit Doval Gets Cabinet Rank, to Continue as National Security Advisor For Next 5 Years.

Irani had retained the charge of Textiles Ministry, a portfolio she held during the first term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi government. On Saturday, She met her predecessor Maneka Gandhi to discuss important issues in the ministry and work towards tackling them. Irani has enhanced her reputation in the party after defeating Indian National Congress president Rahul Gandhi in Amethi.

Earlier today, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad also took charge as the Minister of Communications. The Modi government accorded rank of Cabinet minister to National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval. The government also extended Doval's tenure as NSA for another five years."He (Ajit Doval) has been given cabinet rank in recognition of his contribution in the national security domain," the government said in a statement.
