The Delhi government has banned the banned the Vat 69 whisky and Smirnoff vodka for the next two years, said media reports. Reportedly, the Delhi government decided to not continue with the Vat 69 whisky and Smirnoff vodka owing to duplicate barcodes.
The court of Delhi financial commissioner said that the barcodes were being misused and hence caused a threat to the lives of people.
Diageo, a British multinational alcoholic beverages company and one of the largest in the world, makes the Vat 69 whisky and Smirnoff vodka.

Diageo's subsidiary in India, United Spirits Limited (USL), has been blacklisted by the Delhi government's financial commissioner. The court in its statement said it was established that unauthorised barcodes were used. It added that, "Moreover, the existence of loose barcodes has been established. These loose barcodes could easily be misused and cause danger to public health."
