Sitaram Yechury to Visit Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday to Meet His Party’s Leader Yusuf Tarigami After SC Nod
The apex Court said that if Yechury indulges in any political activities, authorities are free to report them to the top court. Tarigami has been detained by the authorities there in the wake of the Centre abrogating provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution, which granted special status to the state.
New Delhi, August 28: The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted permission to CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury to visit Jammu and Kashmir to meet his party colleague Mohammed Yusuf Tarigami in the state. The apex Court said that if Yechury indulges in any political activities, authorities are free to report them to the top court. Tarigami has been detained by the authorities there in the wake of the Centre abrogating provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution, which granted special status to the state. During the hearing on Wednesday, a bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi directed Yechury to only meet Tarigami and not use the visit for any political purpose. After getting a green signal from the top Court, Yechury is all set to visit Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

The Supreme Court has ordered that Yechury be permitted to visit Yusuf Tarigami in Kashmir. "Accordingly Comrade Sitaram Yechury will travel to Srinagar tomorrow, August 29th. He will inform the authorities in J&K in the hope that at least this time they will facilitate the meeting,” the CPI(M) said. The party added that Yechury will file an affidavit before the Supreme Court on his return.
