'Shiv Bhojan': Uddhav Thackeray Government to Sell Thali For Rs 10 in Maharashtra

Mumbai, December 24: The Maharashtra cabinet on Tuesday approved the Rs 10 thali promised by Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had promised during election campaigning that the Shiv Sena would provide Rs 10 thali to poor and needy people if they come to power. The thali (meal) would contain two chapatis of 30 grams each, one bowl of vegetable of 100 grams, 150 gram rice and 100 gram dal, said reports. However, though the cost of thali is Rs 10, it would cost Rs 50 in urban areas and Rs 35 in rural parts. The margin of Rs 40 from each thali earned from selling in urban areas and Rs 25 in rural areas would go to farmer relief fund.
The government has also laid down conditions for those wanting to sell Rs 10 thalis. The conditions are that there should be ample space to feed the people and women self help groups will also be given preference. The timing at the thali centers will be 12 PM to 2 PM.

"The Rs 10 meal scheme is a part of Shiv Sena's manifesto. Since the BMC canteen already had the option, we decided to activate it here. The scheme will be soon introduced for the common people," Pednekar told ANI while talking to the news agency. Savita Palkar, owner of the canteen, said, "Everybody is coming here. The response is good. People are coming here and enjoying lunch at Rs 10."
The Common Minimum Programme (CMP) of Maha Vikas Aghadi, an alliance of Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress in Maharashtra, had promised to provide food for the common people in the state for Rs 10. In their CMP, the alliance partners had promised to "provide cheap and efficient food for the common people in the state for Rs 10 only".
